The Chair for Charity Auction was organized by the Venduehuis in The Hague. Fourteen leading Dutch designers were invited to select an antique chair from the Venduehuis’ own collection and use it as inspiration to create a new object. Proceeds from all sales of this Chairs for Charity event went to a charity selected by the designer.
Tejo Remy chose a classic model, just to see what he could do with the chair’s design. “I was enthused by the try-out for free form modelling with foam,” says the designer, who became famous for his ragged chair and second-hand drawer for Droog Design. The foam chair sparks debate. When is a seat still a seat? It is accompanied by a side table that flows from the chair naturally. Much money is needed to research Duchenne muscular dystrophy. But for Remy it is also a small yet personal issue: a boy with a muscular disease.
